BASSA — The Founding Story
It started with a dress.
I'd fallen in love with it online — the kind of piece that stops you mid-scroll. The price was high. I bought it anyway. When it arrived I tried it on, and like almost everything else in my closet, it needed to be hemmed. I brought it to my tailor. Fifty dollars later, it finally fit.
That was the moment I started counting.
Every pair of trousers. Every skirt. Every dress I'd ever loved and altered just to wear. The pockets that sat wrong. The hips that pulled. The waistbands that gapped. And then — the final moment that broke me — a pair of jeans that hit my ankles perfectly. I bought them, brought them home, and read the tag. Cropped. They were cropped jeans. Made for a taller woman to wear short. They just happened to be my length.
I laughed. Then I got to work.
I'm Giuliana, founder of BASSA — which means "short" in Italian. I'm owning that completely.
I built BASSA because I was tired of a fashion industry that designs for a woman who is 5'8" and treats everyone else as an afterthought. I was tired of the petite section — that sad corner of shortened, scaled-down versions of clothes that were never meant for us. I wanted something built from scratch. From the rise of the trouser to the torso of the blouse to the placement of every pocket — designed for our frame from the very first sketch.
Not shortened. Designed.
I took a risk on myself because my vision was clear. I have a restaurant, three teenagers, a full life — and I chose to build this anyway. Because when I'm creating each style, I come alive. Because I know the problem I'm solving. And because I refuse to believe that petite women should have to choose between clothes that fit and clothes they love.
We deserve both.
When a woman puts on her first BASSA piece — no tailor, no hemming, no compromising — I want her to feel what I know she'll feel. Beautiful. Confident. Empowered.
Because here's what I know about petite women: we don't need to be taller. We never did. We just need clothes that were made for us.
In BASSA, whether you're in flats or heels, you stand exactly as tall as you were always meant to. Not compensating. Not adjusting. Not hoping it works.
Just you. Finally, perfectly dressed.
BASSA. Designed for your frame — not the industry's.💚
